“Connect is an online mental health GP clinic for youth and adolescents who do not have access to mental health support in this current climate.
The world as we know it has been turned upside down over the past few weeks by the COVID-19 pandemic and many of us are struggling to cope with everything that has happened and what the future holds. There has been a dramatic increase in people suffering from stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms due to COVID-19. This is due to a number of reasons including financial stress, job insecurity, social isolation with strict lockdown measures, change in routines, and anxiety related to COVID-19 infections.
Our teenagers have also been hit hard by this pandemic with the closure of schools and a move to online learning. This is not only challenging for many young people who reportedly struggle with the online learning mode but places significant pressure on year 12 students, who are unsure what the future holds for them. Other students have reported being devastated due to the cancellation of their sport, which for so many is the highlight of their senior years. Boarding students are needing to adjust to online learning in a remote area away from their usual living environment. University students beginning their studies have been moved to a completely online platform and are struggling to keep up with the content and are in turn worried about failing. The list is endless.
Consequently, the demand for GP services with a focus on mental health and counselling services is imperative at this time.
Connect offers mental health GP consultations for individuals suffering with anxiety and depression. Community GP services are bulk billed so there is no out of pocket costs to see GPs and consultations are online via telehealth, so you can chat to GPs in the comfort of your own home. The telehealth service also means the service can be accessed by any young person in Australia who has a Medicare number and access to a phone or computer.
Community GP is very excited to be launching Connect on Wednesday 6 May 2020 with bookings available online through their website www.communitygp.org.au
