This year our Sports Day will be held in Term 1, Week 8 Friday 20th March.
When students start school at Craigburn they are placed in a sports day team being Bradman (Blue), Fraser (Green), Riley (Red) or Woodforde (Yellow).
Sports Day Leaders – Year 7 students have had the opportunity to nominate for sports day leaders for each house team. The students who nominated are in the process of presenting speeches outlining their leadership skills to students in Years 3-7, who then will vote for their leaders. Two boys and two girls will be chosen for each house team to be Captains and Vice-Captains. The sports day captains will work together over the coming weeks to organise chants, health hustle and house meetings in the lead up to Sports Day. Once all captains have been selected we will post names and photos introducing you to our 2020 Sports Day House Leaders.
Sprint run offs – In Week 5 on Friday 28th February there will be run offs for the Year 3 – 7 students for the sprints and relay championships which take place in the afternoon of sports day. Students should wear appropriate footwear on this day. Catch up run offs for students away or injured will be completed by the end of Week 6. Students that will be running in the championship races in the afternoon of sports day, will receive notification of their event once results are consolidated over the coming weeks.
Guest speaker – Each year we invite a special guest to speak to the students at the start of our Sports Day. This person could be a sports person, athlete, past student, parent or someone who has a sporting achievement to share with the students. Our sports day house captains could ask the guest some questions about their achievements or they could talk to the students for a couple of minutes before we begin our tabloid events. If you know of anyone that might be able to help us out please contact the school or email our Specialist PE Teacher Karen Pettman at [email protected]
All family and friends are welcome to attend Sports Day and are encouraged to dress in sports day colours to support the teams.
More information and a timetable of the day will be provided closer to the day.
